Meet Our Team

Prior to founding Mindful Matters Personal Wellness, Dr. Maier served in the public education system, working his way from being a substitute teacher to district superintendent.  During that time, the overall welfare of his students, staff, and community were his priority.  That commitment, care, and compassion led Dr. Maier into the psychotherapy field.

 

Dr. Maier’s formal training and education includes:

• 2002 – Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Eastern Illinois University

• 2007 – Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Governors State University

• 2017 – Doctorate of Educational Leadership and Educational Psychology from Northern Illinois University

• 2018 – Master of Arts in School Business Administration from Northern Illinois University

• 2021 – Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands

• 2021 – Master of Arts in Addictions Counseling from the University of the Cumberlands

 

Dr. Maier specializes in grief and loss, traumatic death, death by suicide, death by overdose, posttraumatic stress disorder, and palliative care. Within his specialty areas, Dr. Maier sees clients of all ages.  Dr. Maier also welcomes children and adolescents with general counseling needs, including depression, anxiety disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, and behavioral issues.  Dr. Maier is also available for speaking engagements and workshops.

 

Within the therapeutic setting, Dr. Maier utilizes a number of modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness-based therapy, play therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and clinical hypnosis.
